Influss 2026 – Buddy System Initiative
The Buddy System has been newly introduced to the Influss - An Artistic Residence programme as a support structure designed to enhance the residency’s three pillars of inquiry, immersion and experimentation. By pairing each international artist with a locally based peer, it aims to deepen engagement with the Maltese cultural context while encouraging horizontal relationships between local and international practitioners.
While being a paid role, the Buddy System is not intended to replace professional production, curatorial, or administrative roles; nor is it a substitute for formal mentoring or technical production services. On the other hand, the scope is to provide contextual navigation and support, peer-to-peer exchange and community building and well-being.
This programme is funded by the Culture Directorate, in collaboration with the Malta Society of Arts and the Valletta Design Cluster through the Valletta Cultural Agency.

Influss is a multidisciplinary residency programme that moves beyond traditional, production-focused models to champion the intrinsic value of the creative process. We invite practitioners to pursue deep creative inquiry whilst grounding their work in the cultural and physical landscape of Malta.
The residency is guided by three core pillars:
- Critical Inquiry: A dedicated platform for both practice-based work and theoretical research.
- Contextual Immersion: Active engagement with Malta’s heritage, communities, and creative ecology.
- Experimentation: The space to test new methodologies, take risks, and evolve your practice.
